History

Lancing Windmill stood near Lancing Ring, close to the chalkpit at the top of Mill Road. A windmill was associated with Hoe Court in 1276-1277, and Lancing Down also had a mill in the sixteenth century. The later post mill was originally at Hoe Court and was moved to the south of Lancing Ring, beside the quarry at the top of Mill Lane.

By about 1875 the post mill stood with four sweeps, with buildings and working activity around it. It remained a recognised local landmark into the early twentieth century and was demolished about 1905. No standing windmill structure survives at the site.
