Site overview

Norton Mill is a former tower mill at Norton, north-west of Doncaster. It is a listed historic mill structure and remained a visible feature of the agricultural landscape around Southfield Road and Kirk Smeaton Road. A drawing of the tower mill was made in 1932.

The construction date, detailed machinery arrangement and final working date have not been established.

History

Norton Mill was a wind-powered tower mill at Norton in South Yorkshire. It stood in the open landscape north-west of Doncaster and became a recognised historic asset within the area.

The tower survived into the twentieth century and was drawn in 1932. Later planning material treated Norton Tower Mill as a listed building and historic landscape feature. The original tower height, cap, sails, windshaft, millstones and closure chronology remain uncertain. The site survives as a former tower mill at Norton.
