Site overview

The Old Windmill at Holberrow Green is a converted brick tower corn mill in the parish of Inkberrow. The listed building dates the windmill to the late eighteenth century, with alterations made in the 1980s. It is a circular-plan tower with a low-pitched conical tiled roof, dentilled brick cornice, two storeys, and twentieth-century casements.

Specialist mill records identify the site as Holberrow Green Mill, a wind-powered corn mill later converted to a house. The cap, sails, and milling machinery have gone, but the listed tower remains as a compact domestic conversion preserving the form of the former windmill.

History

The Old Windmill at Holberrow Green is the surviving tower of a former wind-powered corn mill. It stands in the parish of Inkberrow and is protected as a Grade II listed building. The listed structure is dated to the late eighteenth century, with alterations carried out in the 1980s.

The former mill is a brick, circular-plan tower with a low-pitched conical tiled roof. Its surviving architectural features include a dentilled brick cornice, two storeys, and later casement windows lighting each floor. A twentieth-century extension was added to the north as part of its domestic conversion. Specialist mill records identify it as Holberrow Green Mill, a tower corn mill that has been converted into a house.

Historic county windmill lists place the mill within Worcestershire's surviving windmill record, alongside the nearby Stonepits Quarry mill at Inkberrow. The surviving structure is no longer a complete working mill: the cap, sails, windshaft, and original milling machinery are not retained as a wind-powered installation. Its significance lies in the survival of the listed brick tower and its continued legibility as a former rural tower mill.
