Site overview
The Mill is a Grade II listed former tower mill on Donington Road at Kirton End, near Kirton in Lincolnshire. Built in 1833, it is a four-storey tarred red-brick tower mill erected to replace an earlier post mill. The mill worked until about 1936, when its sails were removed.
The surviving tower preserves the principal historic form of the windmill and is now a visible remnant of Kirton End's nineteenth-century corn-milling landscape.

History
The Mill at Kirton End replaced an earlier post mill on the site. The present tower mill was built in 1833 in red brick and was tarred, a common treatment used to protect exposed Lincolnshire mill towers from weather. The listed structure is a tapering four-storey tower on Donington Road.
It worked as a wind-powered mill for more than a century and remained part of Kirton End's local agricultural economy until about 1936. At that point the sails were removed, marking the end of its wind-powered working life. The tower survived after the loss of its sails and cap and was recognised for its architectural and historic interest when it was listed Grade II in 1987.
Its survival preserves the footprint and vertical form of a nineteenth-century tower mill that succeeded the earlier post-mill phase at Kirton End. The building remains a clear historic windmill survival rather than a complete working mill.
