Site overview
Sheringham tower windmill stood beside Cromer Road just east of the Holway Road and Station Road junction, in the area historically known as Lower Sheringham. The mill is recorded by Norfolk Mills as a tower windmill associated with the Ward family. White's directory listed Samuel Ward as a corn miller in 1836 and 1845, and the 1838 Ordnance Survey map showed the windmill.
Joseph Ward was recorded as miller and farmer in 1846, followed by John Ward in 1850. The 1851 census described John Ward as a master miller, with Samuel Cooper employed in the mill. After Joseph Ward died in 1861, the estate in Beeston Regis and Lower Sheringham was advertised by order of the mortgagees, including a tower windmill, farmhouse, cottages and several enclosures of land.
John Ward was still listed as miller in 1865.

History
Sheringham tower windmill stood beside Cromer Road, just east of the junction of Holway Road and Station Road, the roundabout recorded by Norfolk Mills as existing there in 2009. The site was in Lower Sheringham, a name used before the growth of modern Sheringham. The consulted source gives no construction date, but records Samuel Ward as a corn miller in White's directory in 1836 and notes that the Ordnance Survey map of 1838 showed a windmill.
Samuel Ward was again listed as corn miller in 1845. In 1846 Joseph Ward was recorded as miller and farmer, and in 1850 John Ward was recorded as miller. The 1851 census identified John Ward, aged 25 and born in Broughing, Hertfordshire, as a master miller, with Samuel Cooper of Gresham employed in the mill and Mary A. Ward listed as housekeeper.
Joseph Ward died in 1861. In September 1861 an estate in Beeston Regis and Lower Sheringham, late belonging to Joseph Ward, was advertised for auction by order of the mortgagees. The property included a tower windmill, a small compact farmhouse, cottages and several enclosures of land, to be divided into convenient lots.
White's directory listed John Ward as corn miller at Lower Sheringham in 1864, and Norfolk Mills records John Ward as miller in 1865. No later working history, demolition date, machinery description or surviving structure has been identified in the consulted source.
