Site overview
Mattishall Mill Road tower mill stood on the northwest side of Mattishall village. The supplied coordinates match Mattishall rather than East Dereham. Norfolk Mills records a five-storey red-brick tower built in 1857–1858 for farmer Matthew Yull on a site previously occupied by a post mill.
It worked two pairs of French burr stones and had machinery suitable for wind or steam. The mill was advertised for sale by mortgagees in 1860, and rate-book entries record occupiers including Matthew Yull, William Murrell and John Muskett. Later notices show the sale of John Muskett's stock in 1870 after bankruptcy.
Windmill World records the surviving structure as a truncated Mattishall tower mill with an attached wooden extension used as a holiday let.

History
Mattishall Mill Road tower mill stood in Mill Road on the northwest side of Mattishall. The supplied coordinates identify the Mattishall site rather than East Dereham. Norfolk Mills records that the tower was built in 1857–1858 for farmer Matthew Yull.
The site was originally in Mill Street and had previously been occupied by a post mill that Matthew Yull bought from Richard Sendall in 1840. The new tower was five storeys high and built of red brick. It was designed to produce flour using two pairs of French burr stones, the larger pair measuring 4 ft 4 in and the smaller pair 4 ft.
Matthew Yull ran the mill from April 1858, but in 1860 the freehold land, newly erected tower windmill, cottage, granaries and buildings were advertised for sale by his mortgagees. The sale notice described a five-floor tower windmill with granary, stable, hay house and cart shed, fitted with two pairs of French stones and new machinery for wind and steam, then in full work. The sale was postponed, but further sale notices in 1861 again described a freehold brick tower windmill fitted to drive two pairs of French stones with machinery applicable for wind or steam.
Mattishall rate-book entries record changes of occupier from Matthew Yull to William Murrell and then to John Muskett. In 1870, after John Muskett's bankruptcy, the valuable stock in trade was advertised for auction, including an eight-horse-power portable steam engine by Garrett & Sons. Later notices continued to refer to the windmill and associated land.
Windmill World records the surviving Mattishall tower mill at the supplied coordinates as a truncated tower with an attached wooden extension used as a holiday let.
