Site overview
Shelford Mill is the surviving base of a post windmill on Shelford Road, Newton. The mill was built in the early nineteenth century and functioned as a corn mill. The listed remains consist of a red-brick, circular-plan, two-storey buttressed base with dogtooth eaves.
The ground floor has a segmental-arched doorway and a single window opening, with a further window opening above. Specialist windmill records identify the site as Shelford Mill, Newton, and record modern photographs showing the surviving windmill base in the landscape. The available evidence establishes the early nineteenth-century post-mill base, its corn-milling function, and later survival, but does not provide a detailed account of millers, machinery, or final operation.
