Site overview

Howle Mill at Chetwynd is a small sandstone tower windmill about 400 yards south-south-west of Howle Manor House. The coordinates match the Chetwynd site rather than Market Drayton. The mill is listed Grade II and is recorded as early nineteenth century.

Its surviving form is a slender circular tower of sandstone ashlar with slightly battered walls, a plain ground-floor doorway, and small square openings on each of its three storeys. The rails, cap, and machinery are missing, but the millstones remain, along with a stone cantilevered stair to the first floor. Windmill records identify it as Howle Mill, Chetwynd.

The consulted sources do not provide a full working chronology, commodity beyond the windmill function, ownership sequence, or final closure date.
