Site overview

Weeford windmill, also identified as Moneymore Mill, was a tower corn mill in Staffordshire. The mill is recorded at the supplied coordinates as Weeford rather than Shenstone. It was built or first recorded by 1818 and stood as a tower mill.

Later photographic records show the surviving capless tower during the twentieth century, but the mill was no longer preserved as a standing structure by the twenty-first century. It was demolished in 2015 for quarry-related works. The surviving record is therefore principally one of a former tower mill site rather than an extant tower.

Details of the working machinery, sail arrangement, ownership, and final working date remain uncertain. The site is best treated as the location of a demolished tower corn mill rather than as a present structural survival.

History

Weeford windmill, also known as Moneymore Mill, was a wind-powered tower mill used for corn milling. The mill is identified at Weeford in Staffordshire, with the coordinates matching the Weeford or Moneymore Mill entry rather than Shenstone. It was built or recorded by 1818.

The available records establish its type and function but do not provide a full technical description of its working machinery, sail type, number of stones, or ownership sequence. By the later twentieth century the mill survived as a capless tower, with photographic material recording the tower in 1963 and 1980. The remaining tower did not survive into long-term preservation.

In 2015 it was demolished for quarry-related works. The site is therefore a former tower mill location rather than an extant windmill building. Its history can be followed from early nineteenth-century construction or record, through later derelict tower survival, to final demolition in the twenty-first century.
