History

Rottingdean had a post mill as well as the surviving Beacon Mill. Between 1802 and 1818 the village had both the post mill and the newer smock mill on Beacon Hill. The post mill belonged to the earlier windmilling phase at Rottingdean and was no longer standing after the early nineteenth century.

No surviving post mill body, roundhouse, trestle, sails, or machinery has been confirmed at the site. The location is therefore recorded as a former post mill site only.
