History
Windmill Tower, Glenugie Distillery Invernettie is a former windmill tower at the Glenugie Distillery site at Invernettie, Aberdeenshire. Historic Environment Scotland records the listed structure as probably eighteenth century, circular, about 17 feet in diameter at the base, built of pinned coursed granite rubble and tapered, with putlog holes about two-thirds of the way up. The tower is gutted.
The listed building record notes that the site had large maltings with a kiln attached until about 1958, but that this was evidently later because it did not appear to have been bonded in. The Aberdeenshire Historic Environment Record records Glenugie Distillery as established in 1831, originally named Invernettie, and continuing in operation until closure in 1984. Whisky histories record that the distillery was founded by Donald McLeod and Company and used a disused windmill site.
No detailed windmill working chronology, machinery description, or final windmill operating date has been established from the sources checked.
