History

Papa Westray, Roadside, Wind-Engine was a former wind-powered farm-machine site at Roadside on Papa Westray in Orkney. The site is recorded as a windmill, engine and threshing-machine site. It formed part of a local group of wind engines used to power agricultural machinery before wider modern power provision.

The evidence indicates a farm power installation rather than a conventional corn-grinding tower windmill. No secure construction date, maker, machinery description, ownership sequence, survival condition, or final operating date has been established.
