Malling Mill established
Malling Mill was established at South Malling by the seventeenth century.

Malling Mill stood at South Malling, Lewes. It was a post mill associated with Mill Road and the Mill Green area. A windmill was present there from at least the seventeenth century, and the mill was rebuilt in the nineteenth century.
It burnt down on 8 September 1908, and the site was later reused.

History
Malling Mill stood at South Malling, Lewes, on the Mill Road side of the town. A windmill and associated land at South Malling were recorded from the seventeenth century. The mill passed through several owners and millers, including John Hamlin in the early nineteenth century.
David Morris was miller from 1822, and a lease in 1826 covered the mill, house, garden, yards, outbuildings, and adjoining meadow land. In 1852 John Smith of East Street, Lewes bought the mill with its brick residence, garden, and meadow. The mill was then substantially rebuilt and became a fine Sussex post mill.
Richard Markwick, formerly of Broadwater Mill at Worthing, worked the mill from the 1860s. Malling Mill burnt down on 8 September 1908. The remains were later adapted to other uses, and the wider site was redeveloped in the twentieth century.

Malling Mill was destroyed by fire.

Remains converted
The remains of the mill were converted into a single-storey dwelling.
