A windmill with a miller's house stood at Haywards Heath by 1682.

Church Field Mill stood at Haywards Heath, on or near the later site of St Wilfrid's Church. A windmill with an adjoining miller's house was present by 1682 and was part of the small early settlement at Haywards Heath. It stood on Church Road, opposite the later church site, and had gone before the modern town developed around the railway.

History
Church Field Mill stood at Haywards Heath, on Church Road near the later St Wilfrid's Church. The windmill was associated with an adjoining miller's house and dated back to 1682. Thomas Comber, a Lindfield miller, was associated with its construction.
In the early nineteenth century Haywards Heath remained a small settlement with two inns, eight farmhouses, one windmill with a house, and nine cottages. The windmill site was later absorbed into the developing town. No standing windmill structure survives at the site.
