Common Mill established
East Grinstead Common Mill was established by the late eighteenth century.

East Grinstead Common Mill stood on Windmill Lane, between East Grinstead and Ashurst Wood. It was a windmill on East Grinstead Common and was photographed in 1874. The mill gave its name to Windmill Lane and was still standing in the late nineteenth century.
The final working date and demolition date have not been established.

History
East Grinstead Common Mill stood on Windmill Lane, between East Grinstead and Ashurst Wood, near the top of Cutton's Hill. The windmill was one of the mills associated with East Grinstead, separate from the earlier North End Mill. It was present by the eighteenth century and remained a local landmark in the nineteenth century.
A view from the east was photographed in 1874, and the mill was also represented before 1882. Windmill Lane preserves the association of the site with the former mill. No standing windmill structure survives.
