Site overview

Buckton Mill is a former tower corn mill near Buckton and Bempton. The mill is named Buckton Mill on Ordnance Survey mapping and is also associated with Bempton parish. It survives as a Grade II listed former windmill.

The building has been altered after working ceased, but its full construction date, working chronology, machinery arrangement and final closure date have not been established.

History

Buckton Mill was a wind-powered tower corn mill near Buckton and Bempton. It stands in the coastal farmland north of Bridlington and is identified with the former mill site at Mill Farm. The mill is named Buckton Mill on mapping, while listing and archive material also associate the site with Bempton.

The tower survived after milling ceased and later became a protected historic building. It was listed at Grade II on 2 January 1985 under the name Bempton Mill. The former mill has since formed part of a residential property. The original cap, sails, windshaft, stones and final working date remain uncertain. Buckton Mill survives as a former tower corn mill near Buckton.
