Etton Mill is a former tower corn mill on New Road, Etton. The surviving red-brick tower was built in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. It is a tapering four-storey tower with boarded doorways and segmental-headed openings.

The tower retains rack and curb with an octagonal wheel and chain, and its interior has an unusual post rising from ground level to the second floor to support the millstones. The cap, sails and main machinery have been removed. The mill is listed at Grade II.

History

Etton Mill was built in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century as a red-brick tower corn mill. The surviving tower has four storeys and a tapering form. Its lower level has a boarded door, and the first floor has a boarded taking-in door. Segmental-headed openings survive in the upper storeys.

The mill retained unusual internal structural features after working ceased. A post rising from the ground to the second floor supported the millstones, a feature comparable with a post-mill arrangement inside the tower. Rack and curb also survived with an octagonal wheel and chain. The cap, sails and main machinery were removed, leaving the tower disused and derelict. Etton Mill was listed at Grade II and remains a surviving former tower mill on New Road.
