Site overview

Timms Mill is a former tower corn mill on Boothferry Road in Goole. It originated in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century and later became part of the flour-milling business E. Timm & Son Ltd. Edward Timm rented the five-sail windmill and adjoining three-storey steam mill in the mid-nineteenth century and bought the mill and buildings in 1868. The milling business closed in April 2001, and later retail redevelopment cleared surrounding mill buildings while retaining the tower.

History

Timms Mill was built at Goole as a tower corn mill in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. In the mid-nineteenth century Edward Timm rented a five-sail windmill and adjoining three-storey steam mill on Boothferry Road, establishing the Goole flour-milling firm E. Timm & Son Ltd. In 1868 he bought the mill and adjoining buildings for £1,500. The windmill tower later stood within a larger flour-milling complex.

The tower survived without roof or sails, with additional factory buildings and a chimney around it. E. Timm & Son Ltd closed in April 2001. The surrounding mill buildings were later cleared for retail development, and the remaining windmill tower survived beside the modern supermarket site.
