Yaddon Down Mill stands on Audley Avenue in Torquay, north-east of The Shire. It is a former tower corn mill and one of a group of former windmills forming an arc to the north of Torbay. The listed tower is probably late seventeenth century in date.

The structure is circular in plan and built of slatestone and sandstone rubble. It has splayed reveals to the north and south, segmental-arched windows, and a north-east doorway with voussoirs to the arch. The parapet was rebuilt in brick in the mid twentieth century, marking a later intervention in the surviving fabric.

A lease of 1673 refers to the building of a mill with two stones, providing an unusually early documentary context for the site. Specialist mill records identify the structure as Yaddon Down Mill and record its function as a tower corn mill dating from around 1675. Photographs in the Muggeridge Collection record the tower at Audley Avenue, and an Images of England photograph was taken in February 2002. The tower was listed at Grade II on 3 May 1994 under the formal name Windmill Tower to North East of The Shire at SX 9091 6565. The surviving masonry remains a rare early windmill tower within the Torquay urban landscape.
