History

Heworth Mill was a wind-powered tower corn mill at Newton Aycliffe. The mill stood about half a mile south-east of Aycliffe Church, on elevated ground recorded at around 320 feet. By 1935 the structure was already regarded as the old windmill, indicating that its active milling life had ended by that date.

The detailed construction date, miller sequence and closure date have not been established. The surviving tower represents the principal physical remnant of the former corn mill.
