Site overview
Edenbridge Windmill is a Grade II listed five-storey brick tower mill on Mill Hill, Edenbridge. Built in 1815, with stones also inscribed 1812, it worked as a corn mill during the nineteenth century. William Ashby, the Westerham millwright, repaired the sails and fitted a new neck bearing to the windshaft in 1825 and 1826.
The mill had four sails on a cast-iron windshaft, a domed cap, fantail winding, and overdrift stones driven through surviving main gearing. The mill closed in 1887 and the cap was removed in 1937. The tower was later converted to residential use over a nine-year period after sale to a developer in 1990.

History
Edenbridge Windmill stands on the west side of Mill Hill, north of the hospital. It was built in 1815 as a five-storey brick tower corn mill, although the building also preserves dated stones inscribed 1812. It had a domed cap, four sails carried on a cast-iron windshaft, and fantail winding. The machinery included a wallower, upright shaft, and iron great spur wheel, driving the millstones overdrift. Historic photographs show a stage at first-floor level.
The mill was part of Edenbridge's nineteenth-century milling economy. William Ashby, the Westerham millwright, carried out work in October 1825, fitting a new neck bearing for the windshaft, and repaired the sails in January 1826. Recorded millers include Edward Bridger from 1825 to 1839, H. Sisley in 1844, James Mellish from 1845 to 1849, Stanford in 1854, Moses Brooks from 1864 to 1874, and James Mellish & Son in 1886. From 1854 the mill was owned by the Stanfords, who also owned the watermill.
The mill closed in 1887. The domed cap was removed in 1937 and replaced with a flat roof. In 1990 the property was sold to a developer, and over the following nine years the tower was converted to residential use with relatively minor external changes. Edenbridge Windmill remains a listed and converted tower mill, preserving the main form of the nineteenth-century wind-powered corn mill.
