Site overview
West Hougham Mill was a smock corn mill at West Hougham, west of Dover. Windmill records identify the site at about 51.11666, 1.23885 and describe the mill as a smock mill which collapsed in 1951. Later windmill gazetteers note that some overgrown wreckage may remain at the site.
The recorded history is strongest for the mill's identity, type, location, and final loss, rather than for its detailed working sequence. The site is therefore a former smock mill location rather than a standing or converted windmill, preserving at most fragmentary remains of the former structure in the West Hougham landscape.

History
West Hougham Mill stood at West Hougham, west of Dover. It is recorded in Kent windmill lists as a smock mill, with 1802 given as the first recorded or built date. The mill formed part of the wind-powered corn-milling landscape of the Dover district, using the exposed ground around West Hougham for wind power.
The mill survived into the twentieth century but did not remain standing. It collapsed in 1951. Later windmill records describe the site as a collapsed smock mill and note that some overgrown wreckage may remain. West Hougham Mill is therefore represented by a lost windmill site with possible fragmentary structural remains, rather than by a complete mill, restored mill, or converted base.
