Site overview
Garboldisham tower mill was a four-storey brick tower mill built in 1820 just north of Garboldisham post mill. Norfolk Mills records that the property formed part of the Molyneux-Montgomery family estate for around two centuries before the estate was sold in 1944. The tower mill had a fantail, two pairs of French burr stones measuring 4 ft 4 in and 4 ft 7 in, and a flour mill.
Sale notices quoted by Norfolk Mills describe a brick tower windmill with winding tackle and going gears complete, set in an enclosed yard near the post mill. The post and tower mills were offered for sale by auction in November 1839 and later offered for sale or let in February 1840. The tower mill had been demolished by 1864, when the post mill was again offered for sale.

History
Garboldisham tower mill was built in 1820, immediately north of the older Garboldisham post mill. Norfolk Mills describes it as a four-storey tower mill and records that the surrounding property belonged to the Molyneux-Montgomery family estate for about two hundred years, until the estate was finally sold in 1944. The tower mill was equipped with a fantail and drove two pairs of French burr stones, one measuring 4 ft 4 in and the other 4 ft 7 in, together with a flour mill.
A sale notice preserved by Norfolk Mills described the property as a brick tower windmill four storeys high, standing in an enclosed yard near the post mill, with flour mill, winding tackle and going gears complete. In November 1839 the post and tower mills were offered for sale by auction at the Fox Inn, Garboldisham. They were not sold and were offered again for sale or let by private contract in February 1840.
A fire was reported at a tower mill in Garboldisham on 22 August 1840, although the sources do not securely identify this with the 1820 tower. By 1864 the tower mill had been demolished, as the post mill was offered for sale without it. The surviving, restored Garboldisham windmill is the nearby post mill, not the demolished 1820 tower.
