Stone's Mill, also known as Kerry's Mill, stands on Wickhampton Marshes near Halvergate Fleet. The site is recorded as a wind-powered tower drainage mill, with the present structure probably dating from the 1860s on a pre-1795 mill site. The mill was built of pinkish-red brick, tarred externally, and is now described as derelict.
Archive material identifies the mill on the Great Yarmouth to Wickhampton road and records photographic evidence from 1944. Later gazetteer records locate it as a surviving tower mill on Wickhampton Marshes. History
Stone's Mill occupies a marshland drainage site on Wickhampton Marshes, close to Halvergate Fleet. The windmill is also known as Kerry's Mill. The site is described as a pre-1795 mill site, while the present tower is probably a later nineteenth-century structure, most likely from the 1860s.
It was a wind-powered drainage mill rather than a corn mill, built to serve the drainage needs of the surrounding low-lying marshland. The surviving structure is described as a pinkish-red brick tower with tarred exterior finish. By the period covered by modern records it was already derelict, but it remained identifiable as a tower drainage mill.
A 1944 archive photograph records the mill as Stone's or Kerry's Mill in Halvergate Marshes on the Great Yarmouth to Wickhampton road. The published sources do not identify a precise construction date for the present tower, a final working date, or a full mechanical inventory.
