Site overview

Hellidon Windmill stands at Windmill Hill near Hellidon and is now associated with Windmill Vineyard. It is recorded as a tower mill converted from its former working use. The building is Grade II listed and appears in historic photographic records from the early twentieth century, including views from 1901 and 1903.

Later records describe the former windmill as converted. Archive material identifies it as a tower mill about five miles south-west of Daventry and notes its prominent hilltop position. The available evidence establishes its tower-mill identity, listed status, survival and later conversion, but does not provide a detailed account of construction, machinery, millers or closure date.

History

Hellidon Windmill stands on Windmill Hill at Hellidon, south-west of Daventry. The surviving structure is recorded as a converted tower mill and is now associated with Windmill Vineyard. It is Grade II listed, and Historic England photographic records from 1901 and 1903 show the windmill and its hilltop setting.

Additional archive records identify the structure as Hellidon tower mill, about five miles south-west of Daventry. Its later condition is recorded as a former windmill converted from working use. The accessible records do not provide a secure construction date, named millwright, stone arrangement, sail details, or final commercial working date.

They do, however, firmly identify the surviving building as a former tower mill at Hellidon, with legal protection and later reuse. The site is therefore a surviving converted windmill rather than a working or restored milling structure, and its visible heritage value lies in the retained tower form and hilltop location.
