Site overview

Rattlesden smock mill was a wind-powered corn mill. The mill was first recorded in 1783 and was demolished around 1900. Four alternating sides of the former smock base were later incorporated into the square ground floor of a converted power mill, preserving part of the mill structure within a later building.

History

Rattlesden smock mill stood as a wind-powered corn mill. It was first recorded in 1783. The mill was later demolished around 1900, but parts of its base were retained.

Four alternating sides of the former smock base were incorporated into the square ground floor of a later power mill. That building was subsequently converted, leaving the smock mill remains embedded within a later structure rather than surviving as a complete independent mill body.
