History
The Snape windmill site at TM 394 583 had an earlier post mill recorded from 1668. That mill was demolished around 1797, and Hudson's Mill was built on the same site in 1797. It worked as a post mill and was later photographed in derelict condition.
The windmill ceased working around 1933 and was demolished in July of that year. The site then entered a notable post-milling phase when Benjamin Britten purchased the Old Mill in September 1937. The roundhouse survived after the loss of the mill body and became part of the later identity of the site.
