Site overview

Great Thurlow windmill is a smock corn mill that survives with machinery. The mill stands in the village of Great Thurlow and was listed at Grade II* in 1974. It has been conserved rather than reduced to a base or ruin, and restoration work was being undertaken by 2011.

Later work preserved the mill, and restoration was taking place by 2011. The main established significance of the site is the survival of the smock mill structure with machinery, allowing the former corn-milling function to remain legible.
