Site overview

Eastbridge Mill is a smock drainage mill associated with Stowmarket. The mill was reconstructed at the Museum of East Anglian Life, now the Food Museum, from remains recovered from its original site. The surviving form therefore represents a conserved and reconstructed drainage mill rather than an intact mill preserved in situ.

History

Eastbridge Mill was a smock drainage mill. Its remains were recovered from the original site and the mill was reconstructed at the Museum of East Anglian Life in Stowmarket. The museum is now the Food Museum.

The reconstructed mill preserves the identity of the former drainage windmill, although its present form is a museum reconstruction from recovered material rather than a complete mill surviving unchanged on its original working site.
