Post mill in existence
Mugswell Mill was in existence as a post corn mill by the early nineteenth century.
Site overview
Mugswell Mill was a post corn mill at Chipstead. A windmill was present at Mugswell by the late eighteenth century, and the later post mill worked until about 1895. The post-mill body was demolished around 1912, but the roundhouse survives in the grounds of Mill House on Monkswell Lane.
The surviving structure is listed Grade II.

History
Mugswell Mill stood at Chipstead, at the junction of Monkswell Lane and Green Lane. A windmill at Mugswell was recorded in the late eighteenth century, and the later post mill was in existence by the early nineteenth century. It worked as a corn mill and continued in use until about 1895.
The mill body was later removed, with demolition taking place around 1912. The roundhouse remained after the loss of the working superstructure and survives in the grounds of Mill House on Monkswell Lane. The former post mill is listed Grade II, with the surviving roundhouse preserving the visible remnant of the windmill site.
