History

Riseden post mill stood on high ground south of Riseden Road near Wadhurst. It appeared on maps from 1823 and worked as a post mill. The mill collapsed on a still day in 1910.

After the collapse, the roundhouse and the fallen main post remained as garden features at Windmill Cottage. In 1973 the centre post was pulled down with a rope and windlass. The top of the post was then set in a square flag-stoned flower bed, and three millstones were incorporated into patio paving.

The site survives through these former mill elements rather than through a complete standing post mill.
